Uncle Ken Jones

Founder and Boandik Elder, Uncle Ken

Hello, I'm Ken Jones, a NAIDOC Male Elder and proud member of the Boandik Community, Pangula Mannamurna. My family has a deep-rooted history as indigenous hunters and gatherers in this region. Over the years, I've had the privilege of working with fisheries and wildlife organisations, and I've been a commercial crayfish and shark fisherman. Additionally, I served as an Author and Associate Lecturer for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health at Flinders University in South Australia. I've dedicated over 50 years of my life to conservation efforts, earning recognition as a Lifelong Unsung Hero by the Conservation Council of South Australia.

My passion lies in sharing my adventures with like-minded individuals, witnessing the joy that comes from learning and discovering new experiences while forging a deeper Connection to Country. I've been actively involved in various research projects, including wilderness expeditions and offshore island studies.

Sharing the beauty of our Boandik Country with visitors brings me immense joy, and my love for the Great Southern Ocean continually drives me to explore and savour its salty delights. Through my tours, I aim to encourage others to take the time to appreciate the intricate wonders of nature.

Our Bush Adventure Tours are thoughtfully crafted to educate visitors and families about our treasured birds, animals, and their unique habitats. From creek side and forests to ocean beaches, volcanoes, grasslands, and lakes, our tours cover a diverse range of ecosystems. On our adventures, you might spot brolgas, magpie geese, eagles, bush birds, shore birds, and our beloved magpies. Our local Bunganditj language celebrates their distinctive bird songs and vibrant plumage. Through legends, stories, songs, and dance, we delve into the six seasons and the art of survival, all while fostering meaningful connections. So, bring your friends and families to enjoy full-day experiences that include bush food foraging and sampling our delicious Limestone Coast produce.
